If you try to remember how your school table, chair in university or work table looked, all covered in characters and other funny things... that's where creativity starts, isn't it? Funny characters on bills, tickets, notes, magazines, newspapers. What about you, what and where you draw?
It is called duudling. Duudle is communication, art, your expression for somebody about something and for youself as well. MOYTOY loves what is nice and is mad about duudles. For this reason MOYTOY asked Sune Ehlers aka Duudle dk some questions. You can find many beauties on www.duudle.dk, www.helloduudle.com and www.hellozuudle.com. With a big pleasure we present you the interview.
MOYTOY: Hey, how are you? How is this day going on?
DUUDLE: Hullo hullo. I’m quite well thank you very much. I do need some tea though. And possibly a biscuit. Do you have any? No? As you can see I have my velvet duudle cape on so I can’t complain. The day is quite lovely.
MOYTOY:Is duudle same as doodle?
DUUDLE:Difficult to say. I’ve been wondering the same too. So as I suspected you might ask me that I took the liberty of posing the same question to one of my duudles, Herbert the Oregano Leg. He told me to go away and leave him alone as he was busy boiling a cat. On the more serious side of the matter I guess you could say that duudle is my own misguided approach to the doodle.
MOYTOY:How and when all that duudling came to your life? What was your first duudle?
DUUDLE: I like the fact that you describe it as the duudles coming to me. Because that’s exactly what happened. One day, oh I think it was in the spring of 1999, a warmish day, I was rolling around in the grass celebrating a particularly friendly beam of sunlight. I rolled and rolled and I think it must have been at the 11th roll I suddenly felt a strange sensation at my feet. I looked down and saw a motley crew of some hundred purple duudles struggling to lift my left big toe. That was the beginning of a beautiful but complex friendship.
MOYTOY: What is a description of duudle? What makes difference between awesome and average duudle?
DUUDLE: They have that unique quality about them that they insist to exist although by all accounts their existence is purely questionable. Or rather, like the bumblebees that fly although they shouldn’t be able to. The duudles duudle – it’s quite an enigma.
MOYTOY: What is duudle for you? How much time do you spend on duudling?
DUUDLE: The Duudles are my way out of the daily mayhem. I duudle all the time; in trains, in cars, in the shower, in my food, on my children, on animals and people that bump into me.
MOYTOY:Communication form as duudling is ...
DUUDLE: ... something we all do. You just have to look for it.
MOYTOY:Duudling is popular all around the world. What do you think, what is the reason for that?
DUUDLE: Hmm, biggish question. I guess the whole characterbased world that thrive like never before might derive from an urge to breathe more life into our daily lives. We miss to play.
MOYTOY: You have created many characters. Where do they come from? What inspires you?
DUUDLE: They come from my everydaylife. I love to cook for instance and I see tiny creatures messing about in my salat leaves. Have a look next time you’re eating a ceasar salad.
MOYTOY: In your website there are many funny duudles. How do you find them?
DUUDLE: There are different places to look for them; behind refrigerators, inside the tiniest spaces in washing machines – the same place that your socks go never to return again, in Finland, at lost & found offices, in the cheese section in your local supermarket and the best place of all.. no, wait, I can’t tell you that
MOYTOY: What is your favorite duudle?
DUUDLE: My two kids Hugo & Sonia.
MOYTOY: Who are your favorite duudlemans?
DUUDLE: Jon Burgerman, Tim Biskup, Fons Schiedon, Gary Cooper, TADO and oh so many more.
MOYTOY: You say that somehow it was strange when your duudles were sold? Why?
DUUDLE: I’m gigantically honoured that anyone wants to own my images – and always surprised.
MOYTOY: Who are the people who buy/create / sell duudls?
DUUDLE: A team of lovely human beings.
MOYTOY: You know many people who draw them, what unites them all, all around the world?
DUUDLE: Some very peculiar habits and a tendency to use the color red a little too much
MOYTOY: How could I join duudling? Is there any international projects I could join?
DUUDLE: You are a already a duudler!
MOYTOY: Thank You for answers and for duudling the world:)
If you have already lots of duudles or maybe just one but the amazing one, you can sent it to ehlers, jaegersborg alle 235, 2820 gentofte, denmark or duudle@duudle.dk and get involved in duudlers world.
